You’re fridayed!

Friday - Home Screen

Friday - Home Screen

I have been waiting for that message for 4 months. This is probably the longest I had to wait for a beta invite. So what is Friday?

Friday is a completely private and personal suite that helps you to build a digital story of your life. But unlike any other suite, friday does everything by itself, without you having to tap in every photo, checking or person you have come across in your life. It is like building a world which is about you, where you can browse through the timewarp, ask questions about your favorite moments, and see a lot of interesting and fun facts about you. It is about answers, Journal and analytics.

Friday will keep track of all the calls you make, receive and miss. Friday will track your e-mails and SMSs. It will also track where you were when you got the call/text. Here is my initial post about Friday.

After playing around with Friday for a few days, I have decided to put my experience for anyone who might be interested. Just so you know, I had to wait 4 months after registering for an invite. But, Friday has come a long way, and I am sure that those who sign-up now will get it much sooner. This is probably my one complaint about Friday, the long wait time. Do not think of this as a review, because I have a feeling that anything I say now would be irrelevant by the time the app is ready for public release. As this app is still in its beta phase, I won’t be listing out the bugs I find over here. This is the time for Dexetra to fix those bugs and improve the software.

Is this Android App for you?
Probably not, unless you are an information hoard. Do you keep all the mails you receive, even if you know you don’t need it? Do you categorize each of your email with multiple labels? Do you save your SMS and call logs, to your Gmail or Google Calender? If you do, then you are going to love this application.

Would you be using Friday, every day?
Very unlikely. The purpose of the app is to stay in the background, watching everything you do and record it for posterity. Your biographer will thank you. If your work is like mine, then you mind find it useful. Many events we consider as insignificant today, might become a milestone in your professional and personal life, and in my opinion, it is always better to have the information you never would need than not collect any information at all.

Do you still want to get Friday?

You can sign-up for an invite from Friday’s sign-up page.

The above link is a random referral link. Since I don’t need an invite, I can add your referral link included in the list of links. This will increase your referral count and might help you get Friday faster.  Just add the details below. Drop a comment and share this post. This will lead to more people using your link to sign-up.

Even though it does not have all the features as Siri, yet, it shows a lot of promise with constant updates and improvements. Iris (Siri in reverse) was created within 8 hours after Apple announced Siri and that was how many people heard about its developer Dextra and the sibling of Iris who has been gestating for a while now.About FridayMany people find it difficult to maintain a diary (me), but I wish I knew what I did a week or a month back. Sometimes I would know what I did, but would have no idea when I did it. Android has some apps which will export your call logs and SMSs to your Gmail inbox or to Google Calendar. This means I know when I talked to who, but it stops there. With Friday on your mobile, it will keep a track of everything you do. It would know where you were at a particular point of time, who you called and what music you were listening to. Think of it as a personal biographer. Who knows, you may need those details when the world wants to know all about you.I am sure that many people would be worried about their privacy, but Dexetra says, the information stays on your mobile. If you are worried about someone stealing your mobile to find out what you did last summer, you might want to wait before you try this app. Getting FridayYou can get Friday by invite only, but it is not easy. I have been on the list for a few months now with hardly any luck. Dextra says they will be sending invites this week, but I am still waiting. Hopefully I won’t have to wait for long and I am sure you won’t experience the long wait that I had to endure.Get in line for Friday here The opinion of people who tried the alpha version of Friday have been overwhelmingly positive and with Dextra’s work with Iris, they are planning to incorporate the best features of Iris into Friday.I have seen my share of new apps and websites come and go, some of which are never heard by 99.99% of the internet users. It is dissapointing that some of the promising startups didn’t get the exposure they deserved or didn’t live up to the initial expectations. With Friday I see a endless possibilities. At present it captures certain events, but if Dextera is able to incorporate API from major websites and apps, then the information that can be captured in a centralized location would be huge. Building on it, Dextera can provide its own API so that information can be pushed to Friday instead of Friday actively looking for it. Considering the changes the team has made to Iris, I am sure they will be thinking of expanding the reach of Friday. As far as I can tell, there no other apps which comes anywhere close to doing what Friday can do.ReviewsReview by Appnomy Review by AndroidtappOnce I get my hands on Friday, you can be sure there will be a followup post with screenshots and my opinion on how it can make a difference to your life.Update: The followup post can be found at 2byts [...]
